Originally entitled "Row for the Shore", this piece for Male Voice choir was inspired by the Eight - Oar gig races which take place on the Isles of Scilly each year. Its final verse features a part for Solo Tenor, accompanied by the remainder of the choir. The piece uses my own words but incorporates words and phrases used by the gig crews as suggested by a rower. The relaxed pace is intended to reflect the rower’s tired return to land and probably the ‘Mermaid’ pub, at the end of an energetic day’s racing.
